Standard IV: Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.
Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources.
Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.
Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information.
Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools.
Reflection:
Being a regular role model proves the learners that the instructor is devoted to encouraging and upholding educational standards is very important. Examples of beneficial role modeling behaviors include citing sources used in lectures and giving a list of references at the end of PowerPoint presentations. Additionally, excellent role models decrease possibilities to participate in academic dishonesty. Teachers should not suppose learners understand what constitutes academic integrity. They need excellent practice models and instruction on suitable digital behavior. Hence, demonstrate how the policy works-specifically what is and is not allowed. Through exploring learning principles (check the first video artifact down below), teaching theories and conducting researches and surveys, instructors are developing professional abilities and enhancing teaching and design techniques. Educators do not only have the responsibility to model good digital citizenship ourselves, but also have to help students understand what it means. Provide opportunities for students to learn responsibly through technology and be sure that what they are asked to use is appropriate is the main purpose of keeping learning and developing professional skills. In conclusion, technology is altering the learning environment in the classroom. Internet-capable mobile technologies are no longer seen as a diversion in the classroom, but as an approach to promote teaching. Students will be motivated to become excellent digital citizens who conform to academic integrity norms through suitable teaching methods and role modeling.
To continue to fulfill the needs and expectations for educators in this standard, I would be more cautious about copyright and fair use problems in my future studies and teaching. At the same moment, all learners should benefit from knowing the internet parameters for the respectful sharing of thoughts digitally when they are placed online. Hence I will be conscious of my own creations and continue to produce learner-centered tasks for learners of all skill levels.
